It is the best article that I have ever read on the Mumbai terror attack from Indian perspective. I would very much like to congratulate the author that I mostly share her view and like to write it to her. Corruption and Terrorism Very Much Connected
OR
(Fake-ID Enables Terrorism: Biometric-ID Disables it)
This is my perspective comment on the article titled: Mumbai was not our 9/11" in Guardian <www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/dec/12/mumbai-arundhati-roy> on Friday 12 December 2008.
To sum it all, CORRUPTION is the root-cause of Terrorism. Corruption leads to social injustice, unrest that gives birth to extremism and the terrorism. Ironically it is the same corruption once again that makes the terrorist attack possible. In this regard, its Money-Laundering hand, which mainly provides basic sustenance,(cash, credit card for food, shelter etc) logistics (communication, cell-phone SIM card, transport vehicles etc) arms and ammunitions (guns explosives etc) for the terrorist attack.
However corruption especially its terrorism wing can not escape detection from the law enforcement while carrying out all the above mentioned activities unless it successfully disguises and hide itself from the detection of law by leaving no concrete evidence or recoded proof of the money trail or the terrorist finance. What really enables it to do it successfully is the use the fake or forged ID (or having no ID at all) in obtaining all those things mentioned above (specially phone communication arms and ammunitions) which then used as deadly terror weapons.
The use of fake ID documents in obtaining the things like cell-phones credit cards, guns, explosive used in the terror attack and having no concrete money trail evidence of it that can link to the top brass of the terrorist today blocks the arrest and conviction of the main suspect leadership. Therefore preventions of fraud or fake ID is the paramount important requirement of preventing the terror attacks.
The conventional ID containing name address and signature document of a person very much prone to fraud or security breach. As the corruption perpetrators can successfully forge it and produce all the fake or bogus ID documents. However by adding the Biometric Identity (BID) into it can absolutely prevent any one from faking it.
Therefore in order to combat terrorism successfully the governments needs to bring in a policy of compulsory or Mandatory Biometric Identity MBID) in all bank accounts and any one buying, selling or transferring important financial, social, communication and national SECURITY matters like credit cards, voters ID, driving license, phone connection (including cell-phone, SIM card etc), weapons, explosives, drugs or any big transfer of money or asset should do its money transaction only through their bank to the others bank account. Finally to conclude it in once sentence; ‘it will successfully end the menace of fake ID in security matters thereby root-out corruption along with terrorism.
